May Learning be an Eternal Love

Pippa Callanan is available for clinics in the

USA, Canada and Europe

She welcomes all breeds, backgrounds and levels as part of her commitment that dressage is for the good of the horse, and not the inverse. She enjoys identifying the strengths and weaknesses of each pair, and recommending the priorities for the short and long term. Her teaching style incorporates memorable visual metaphors that aim to change old patterns. Her passion is to analyze and explain in a way that seeks simplicity, which is a creative process that brings joy and lightness to the work. Ultimately, her goal is to empower riders with autonomous, thoughtful partnerships with their horses, based on an a foundation of understanding and clarity. She leaves students with an approach and tools they understand. Clinics typically include private riding sessions, in-hand work, ground work, theory sessions and unmounted seat studies.

I have been teaching and learning from Pippa for the past four years. Her love and passion for the horses and her pursuit for the art of Classical Dressage are unparalleled. Her vast knowledge, skill and natural instincts give her an uncanny ability to teach horses to think and learn. These same qualities have taught her to be a great problem solver. A quality which is rare and only comes to those who really commit themselves and have a natural tact to feel into a horse. Pippa is able to use her knowledge and skills to adjust to a wide variety of breeds and levels of training.

I have witnessed her effectively: work with young horses which are learning some of their first lessons on the ground, bring contentment to seriously troubled horses, where they were able to work in harmony with her under saddle and teach horses the refined movements of the high school, including lead changes, canter pirouettes, piaffe and passage.

Pippa is a very perceptive and elegant rider who aims to perfect the balance, lightness and responsiveness in each horse she works with.

As a teacher I have found Pippa to be very kind and understanding while still having a way about her that inspires you to challenge yourself to learn and grow. She has approached every lesson I have had with her with such positive energy and passion that I can't help but to become inspired. A few years ago I had come to a place where I felt very stuck in some of the higher level work in my horsemanship. I went to many different teachers in search of answers and was not finding them. Pippa took interest in my plight and gave me the education and understanding that helped me through this difficult place in my career.

I highly recommend her for any level of rider or training.

For me, Pippa has been that once in a lifetime trainer. I am an adult amateur rider, and have spent the majority of my adult life stuck at the same riding level, exhausted in my search for the ever elusive unicorn. I sought Pippa out because of her unique qualifications in classical dressage. Immediately upon meeting her, I found her integrity and kindness were equally impressive. After our first session, I was in awe. Her solutions were so simple and practical! I didn't need gadgets and equipment to fix my issues. I also didn't need to figure out how to do all kinds of new things with my body; in fact, I needed to do less! Most of all, I was relieved to hear that I wasn't a bad rider. I am so thankful to have found her. She is truly a gifted teacher, with a unique ability to share her wealth of knowledge in a relatable and replicable way. In under a year, both my riding and my horses have improved more that I would have ever believed possible. She teaches with kind encouragements, and continues to seek new training and information herself. I have no doubt that Pippa will be known as a master in this field, and I would encourage anyone who wants to advance their skills to train with her while they can.

Pippa is an extremely talented equestrian and trainer – for riders of all skill levels and horses of all breeds and a genuinely wonderful human being. I came to Pippa with a limited knowledge of classical dressage and a very green 9 yo draft horse. She was patient, welcoming and supportive from day one, while at the same time challenging both myself, and my horse, to reach outside of our comfort zone. Pippa has a very deep understanding of the philosophy and science underpinning the art of dressage. She is committed to her students and their horses and thoughtful in her training approach, making adjustments based on the specific needs of each rider and horse. Her approach sets the horse and human team up for success. Working with Pippa has been a joy and has allowed me, and my horse, to progress in ways I never imagined. My horse is healthier and happier than when we started this endeavor, and we have a closer relationship, we now operate as a team. I am eternally grateful to Pippa for taking a chance on us. I cannot recommend working with her highly enough regardless of your skill level or the breed of your horse.

In my opinion, Pippa is one of the great horsewomen/trainers of our time. Anyone can call themselves a trainer, however it is rare to find a true talent and lover of horses like Pippa. My young Andalusian has a huge personality. Two trainers have worked with him for months with less than excellent results. In just a few weeks, Pippa brought out the very best in him and he absolutely loves her! Pippa’s work over he past several years with Philippe Karl (a leading figure in the art of classical riding) has given her an advanced education in the School of Légèreté. I've watched Pippa with numerous people/horses and am always amazed at the what she is able to achieve with a strong but loving attitude. I highly recommend her for any level horse/rider.
